Airbnb cannot handle uk card payments properly

Just spent a wasted morning trying to pay for a Italian booking. Airbnb seem to have a weak interface to the payment systems who then refuse authorisation (we tried two cards).Their help desk chat system then went through the usual check your credit, contact your bank (we did - they read out the message at their end).We then had to use PayPal - using exactly the same credit card - but this route has cost us an additional £40 in currency conversion that would not have happened if they had systems that work.I believe their problem is that they do not collect the "name on the card" for credit cards and therefore won't be providing the correct data for a cardholder not present transaction using the higher European standards for card payments. What an unpleasant experience - won't be using them again.
