Airbnb didn't respect our cancellation policy and refund a guest who canceled his stay 24 hours before check in and had refused to sign our short term contract. WARNING for Canadians. AirBnB now takes an additional 30% USD from your rental income and submits to the US Government. So you're getting double taxed - AirBnB forces you to pay the 30% tax by taking it off any rental income you earn. Then you have to declare that income in Canada and pay tax again. They don't tell you this upfront so it's a shock. I thought I had $600 coming to me and inquired when I just got $400. AirBnB told me after that fact and said sorry - not our problem.
Booked a 4 month stay with Airbnb in an apartment in Toronto with a host called Shane. What a mistake that was! When we arrived we were horrified by what we saw. After finally getting our keys with no help from the host we opened the apartment door to find a dark, dismal and utterly disgusting apartment. It was unclean and unkept it still had items left from a previous booking their. upon further inspection nearly all the light were broken or without bulbs. mirrors were filthy, no curtains on windows, marks all over floors, filthy cupboards, shower rails hanging off walls, no wifi, dirty wardrobes with broken doors it was just a thing from nightmares. we took photos and left. After reporting this to the host we were told "This isn't a 4 star seasons hotel what do you expect" reported this to airbnb and we`ve been told we do not get a refund for our stay. Absolutely appalling i would advise anyone not to use airbnb in Canada.
Don't trust Airbnbn to collect money for you they booked a Guest without collecting the Money or security deposit for me and left me with Guest living for free in my Apartment. Don't expect any help from Airbnb every time I call them all They are doing is getting me of the phone with the same old story we will look in to it like a broken Record. In the meantime I am losing money and have people living for free in my House. Looks like Airbnb is just out to collect a easey fee and don't offer any protection what a fraud.
The website is great to find host all around the world. We have use it I think almost 20 times, the booking is easy, sometimes there is discount for a week stay, some useful filters (breakfast, kitchen, wifi...). Once our host ( not Airbnb) cancelled our stay in New York one week before we arrive, we were disapointed, but Airbnb was quick to give our money back, they even give us a 26€ voucher. You just have to be sure about the host, read the reviews, check if you are allowed to cancel and everything will be fine!
Terrible customer service, will never book with Airbnb again. My host cancelled my reservation a week before my check-in date and I had to scramble to find another accommodation. Airbnb was the least helpful. They offered to find another listing, but everything that was available was minimum $1000 more than what I paid for the initial booking. They did not offer any discount for booking a new accommodation, as they claimed the original booking was a "rare find that is truly up to your preferences". Fortunately I was able to find another place but still had to pay almost $800 more for the trip than originally planned due to the cancellation. To top things off I can't even leave a negative review on the host that cancelled as per Airbnb's policies, the ability to leave a review is only activated upon checkout. They suggested I contact the host directly, as if that will do any good. This is the first and last time I will book with Airbnb.

Had delt with air bnb multiple times customer service reps are great. however case mgrs are not to easy to talk to they have and intend to keep the agenda of keeping revnue for airbnb. I had spoke with one case mgr Alexandra G. he kept interuptioing me and wanted to end the phone call_ he was not intrested in resolving and issues or acting as a mediator for anyone. dispointed that he could have a postion as a case manger. I will no longer do business with Air bnb. Home Away has much better policy protecting both customer and owner. respectfully Brian
Thought we were getting an ‘entire house/apt’ as the ad mentioned but got a musty, damp basement. Pool and deck was beautiful but everything else was not as advertised. Could smell cannabis everyday we were there. Host Tina appeared nice but turned out to be sneaky and for sure knows what she is doing. Renting under false pretences for a money grab. This is what Airbnb protects.
Gives way too much power to the hosts to abuse if they so please. They allow for abhorred cancellation policies even during this pandemic. I just had a host keep over $2000 CAD when I had to cancel my trip because of Covid-19. This host didn't even provide me with any service, and ignored any communication I tried to make before we had to cancel. He literally STOLE that money because I did not get anything in return for it. What a garbage service.
