Just spent a wasted morning trying to pay for a Italian booking. Airbnb seem to have a weak interface to the payment systems who then refuse authorisation (we tried two cards).Their help desk chat system then went through the usual check your credit, contact your bank (we did - they read out the message at their end).We then had to use PayPal - using exactly the same credit card - but this route has cost us an additional £40 in currency conversion that would not have happened if they had systems that work.I believe their problem is that they do not collect the "name on the card" for credit cards and therefore won't be providing the correct data for a cardholder not present transaction using the higher European standards for card payments.What an unpleasant experience - won't be using them again.
Not a regulated market. Allows hosts to rip-off customers by not reviewing ANY OF THEIR LISTINGS. I raised this and the answer was "it is a free market". Shows 0 competence as well as 0 interest in preserving customers by setting up a min/max range on house prices. So yes, thanks to this app you might pay £2900 a night for a home that would usually be listed for £150. Shocking.
Paid over £1000 for a week in an apartment in Croatia. We had to move the dates by a week and this was done through the airbnb messaging system as the booking was non refundable. The hosts blocked out our new dates so I couldnt ask for the booking to be moved, i could only cancel. When we arrived there were holes in the walls, wires sticking out, nails sticking out (one of which my daughter cut her foot on) and pipes sticking out in most rooms. There also wasn't access to shared garden as described. I complained to be told that as the booking wasn't officially moved then tough luck pretty much. Disgusted and will never use them again.
Horrible customer service and terrible tech. Impossible to get through to anyone who knows definitively how the AirBnB site/tech works to advise accordingly. Put on hold for ages only to have no one come back to you. Then you try to connect through chat and the system keeps kicking you off. Their tech is awful and their customer service not capable of resolving issues thoroughly and efficiently. Also, the fact you cannot use a gift card toward a second payment (the second 50% if breaking up the payment), is ridiculous. A gift card is a payment method and it should be possible to use it on its own or in combination with another payment method if one wants.So much easier to book with a hotel. AirBnb used to be novel but now it's just a pain.

I want to say an extremely big thank you to Abdul at the help centre/customer service! After having to contact for a 2nd time Abdul was understanding and gave me precise and quick help immediately as I was in a big bind. He was kind, friendly, and 100% helped me feel less stressed about the situation I needed help with. He went completo y above and beyond and I want to say I appreciate his help so so much! I hope that is management see this, he needs a raise!
I booked an apartment months ahead for cheap rent and the host cancelled the booking within 4 weeks, costing me twice the amount to rebook similar bnb. Airbnb did not acknowledge host cancellation policy when I ask them offer the reason of host cancellation which should be beyond their control, otherwise cancellation fees to amend my loss. However, airbnb simply closed the case saying they cannot know why the host cancelled and they would not investigate this, giving the host all freedom to cancel the booking at their pleasure. Please beware when you rent from airbnb, unless your host is nice, the company would not help you or respect their own policy.
I meant to stay in Airbnb for 21 nights and during this stay, I encounter bed bugs issues. After initial few days, when I asked host about it, they did some steaming and said everything is right. I covered my feet and arms with socks while sleeping and unfortunately, was severely bitten over face, being very painful, irritating, and have to take medications. Which I took pictures. I told host I cant stay here anymore and left it.I even informed airbnb and they asked me they will reply me. They changed like 5 agents and every agents keep asking same questions. When I reply, the agent got changed (horrible customer service). I booked another room with airbnb (which was more expensive than the initial one) for rest of the nights (7 nights). Now, airbnb said, the pictures you sent us are not looking like bedbug bitten and asked for medical report or/and bed bugs stains. I dont have bed bugs pictures as I could not find them. My gp is in scotland and I have to make temporary documentation with local gp in England which was time consuming given I have to go for work. I discussed with my brother, who is a doctor in nhs and took some medication and the irritation and bites were healed in 2-3 days. Airbnb now refused to refund and the host also said, we are unable to find bed bugs. I mean, I bear so much mental pain and have pictures, which i can send over. Now I ended up paying twice for same dates, got more metal stress, which disturbed my routine, and moreover, the airbnb agents were not helpful. THEY ARE SCAMMER, WITH WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, SO BETTER BOOK SOME HOTEL AND HAVE PIECE OF MIND!-Dr Mustansar.
